DRESDEN GREEN DIAMOND.
DRESDEN GREEN DIAMOND. The famous, possibly the most famous, Fancy green diamond in the world, the Dresden Green, a type IIa diamond of probable Golconda (India) origin weighing 40.70 ct, cut in the first half of the 18th century and acquired in 1741 by Frederick Augustus II of Saxony, that is part of the treasure of the Electoral Princes of Saxony at Grünes Gewölbe, in Dresden, Germany, serves here to illustrate a post on fashioned green diamonds. By the way, the Dresden Green diamond survived the 2019 robbery of 21 jewels of the treasure, valued at just under €114m, because it was on loan for the "Making Marvels" exhibition at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York city. Six suspects were arrested and are currently on trial although the jewels were not recovered.
