In 1931, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala commissioned Cartier to transform heirloom gems from the Patiala treasury into a masterpiece for Maharani Yashoda Devi.
The result was a breathtaking platinum choker in bold Art Deco style, set with 292 Burmese rubies, diamonds, and natural pearls. Resting around the neck like a collar of crimson fire, it embodied royal love, power, and unmatched elegance.
After Indian Independence, the choker disappeared from public view and was long believed lost. Years later, surviving sections resurfaced, allowing Cartier to restore this extraordinary jewel.
Today, the restored Patiala Ruby Choker belongs to the prestigious Al Thani Collection and is exhibited around the world. It was prominently displayed at The Splendor of Indian Royal Jewelry exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco during 2018–2019. One surviving section of the choker sold at auction for more than US$975,000.
Together with the legendary Patiala Necklace, this jewel represents one of the most extravagant and historically important jewelry commissions ever created.
It is not merely a necklace.
It is a story written in rubies.

वर्ष 1931 में महाराजा भूपिंदर सिंह पटियाला ने Cartier को अपने शाही ख़ज़ाने के अनमोल रत्न सौंपे, ताकि महारानी यशोदा देवी के लिए एक अद्वितीय आभूषण तैयार किया जा सके।
परिणामस्वरूप प्लैटिनम में निर्मित एक शानदार आर्ट डेको चोकर अस्तित्व में आया, जिसमें 292 बर्मी माणिक, हीरे और प्राकृतिक मोती जड़े गए थे। यह चोकर महारानी के कंठ पर अग्नि की लाल आभा की तरह दमकता था।
स्वतंत्रता के बाद यह अनुपम आभूषण सार्वजनिक दृष्टि से ओझल हो गया और लंबे समय तक खोया हुआ माना जाता रहा। वर्षों बाद इसके कुछ भाग पुनः प्राप्त हुए और Cartier ने इसे सावधानीपूर्वक पुनर्स्थापित किया।
आज पुनर्स्थापित पटियाला रूबी चोकर विश्वप्रसिद्ध Al Thani Collection का हिस्सा है। इसे 2018–2019 में सैन फ्रांसिस्को के de Young Museum में आयोजित The Splendor of Indian Royal Jewelry प्रदर्शनी में प्रदर्शित किया गया। इस चोकर का एक भाग नीलामी में 9,75,000 अमेरिकी डॉलर से अधिक में बिक चुका है।
