The Peacock Throne.

The Peacock Throne. "It is the richest and most superb throne which has ever been seen in the world.” -Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, 17th century French jeweler. The Peacock Throne, constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, contained 2500 lbs of gold and 500 lbs of precious gems, including the infamous Koh-I-Noor diamond. The throne itself took seven years to complete. As a contemporary Mughal source describes: “The outside of the canopy was to be of enamel work studded with gems, the inside was to be thickly set with rubies, garnets, and other jewels, and it was to be supported by twelve emerald columns. On the top of each pillar there were to be two peacocks thick set with gems, and between each of the two peacocks a tree set with rubies and diamonds, emeralds and pearls.”
