THE BLACK PRINCE. Who was Sir Duleep and why was he referred to as The Black Prince? Maharaja Daleep Singh ji(Patiala)had arrived to England a country completely foreign to him. He had spies on him at all times as he was the son of a fallen kingdom. Despite all the political tensions he was still just a kid. He would play with the Queens children. On one occasion he dressed Prince Arthur in traditional Punjabi clothing and Sikh turban. The queen described him as ‘16 and handsome’ in her journals. Because of his naivety she would fondly refer to him as her ‘black prince’. Here is real photo of him as a young chap. He went through many challenges throughout his lifetime trying to rediscover his stolen identity. Many Punjabis still look up to him as the King without a Kingdom. May he rest in peace.
