The Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is not just a monument; it is a living memory of the 13th-century Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, whose teachings of love, humility, and universal compassion continue to breathe through its courtyards.
When he passed away in 1325, his followers—under the rule of Muhammad bin Tughluq—raised this shrine in Ghiyaspur, today known as Nizamuddin. Over time, Firuz Shah Tughlaq restored and adorned it, and centuries later, Mughal and Deccan patrons added layers of marble elegance, including the famed balustrade gifted by Hyderabad’s Paigah nobles.
But what truly defines this place is not stone—it is sound.
As evening falls, the air fills with qawwali, a tradition deeply tied to his beloved disciple Amir Khusro, whose own grave rests beside his master. Here, poetry becomes prayer, and music becomes devotion.
Around the saint lie stories carved in silence—graves of followers, emperors, and even Jahanara Begum, who chose humility in death, asking for an open grave under the sky.

दिल्ली की गलियों में एक ऐसी जगह है जहाँ समय ठहरता नहीं, बल्कि गूंजता है।
हजरत निज़ामुद्दीन दरगाह केवल एक मकबरा नहीं, बल्कि 13वीं सदी के महान सूफी संत हजरत निज़ामुद्दीन औलिया की जीवित विरासत है। उन्होंने प्रेम, सादगी और इंसानियत का जो संदेश दिया, वही आज भी इस दरगाह की हवा में महसूस होता है।
1325 में उनके देहांत के बाद, उनके अनुयायियों ने इस दरगाह का निर्माण कराया। उस समय दिल्ली सल्तनत के सुल्तान मुहम्मद बिन तुगलक का शासन था। बाद में फिरोज शाह तुगलक ने इसका पुनर्निर्माण और विस्तार कराया। सदियों में इसमें कई बदलाव हुए, जिनमें हैदराबाद के पैगाह परिवार द्वारा दी गई संगमरमर की जाली विशेष रूप से उल्लेखनीय है।
लेकिन इस जगह की असली पहचान इसकी दीवारों में नहीं, इसकी आवाज़ में है।
हर शाम यहाँ क़व्वाली गूंजती है—वही परंपरा जो अमीर खुसरो से जुड़ी है, जो उनके सबसे प्रिय शिष्य थे और जिनकी मजार भी यहीं स्थित है। यहाँ संगीत इबादत बन जाता है और शायरी दुआ।
दरगाह के आसपास कई ऐतिहासिक हस्तियों की कब्रें हैं, जिनमें मुगल शहजादी जहाँआरा बेगम भी शामिल हैं, जिन्होंने सादगी भरी कब्र की इच्छा जताई थी।
सात सौ वर्षों बाद भी यह स्थान हर धर्म के लोगों को अपनी ओर खींचता है—सिर्फ दुआ के लिए नहीं, बल्कि उस सुकून के लिए जो यहाँ महसूस होता है।
यह केवल एक दरगाह नहीं है।
यह एक एहसास है।
