Within the massive walls of Chittorgarh Fort, where stories of valour dominate the narrative, there exists a quieter space — a temple remembered not through inscriptions, but through belief.
This shrine, locally known as the “Sasu Ji Temple,” is associated with Mirabai, whose life journey transformed devotion into legacy.
After her marriage to Bhoj Raj, son of Rana Sanga, Mirabai entered Chittor in the early 16th century. It is during this phase, as per regional tradition, that her connection with this temple is believed to have begun.
Local narratives state that this temple was established by her mother-in-law, often identified as Rani Ratan Kanwar. Because of this association, it came to be known as “Sasu Ji ka Mandir.” It is also believed that Mirabai offered prayers here in her early married life — before her devotion took a complete spiritual turn towards Lord Krishna.
However, it is important to note that these associations are rooted in oral tradition, not firmly documented historical records. What is historically verified is the timeline — placing this belief in the early 16th century during the reign of Rana Sanga.
Today, the temple stands not as a monument of grandeur, but as a silent witness — to a phase of Mirabai’s life where devotion was still finding its path within the walls of royalty.

चित्तौड़गढ़ किला की विशाल दीवारों के बीच, जहाँ वीरता की गाथाएँ गूँजती हैं, वहीं एक ऐसा स्थान भी है जो शांति और आस्था की कहानी कहता है।
यह मंदिर, जिसे स्थानीय रूप से “सासु जी का मंदिर” कहा जाता है, मीराबाई से जुड़ा माना जाता है — वह राजकुमारी जिसने भक्ति को अपना जीवन बना लिया।
जब मीराबाई का विवाह भोज राज से हुआ, जो कि राणा सांगा के पुत्र थे, तब वे चित्तौड़ आईं। स्थानीय परंपराओं के अनुसार, इसी समय उनका इस मंदिर से संबंध माना जाता है।
मान्यता है कि इस मंदिर का निर्माण उनकी सास, जिन्हें परंपराओं में रानी रतन कंवर कहा जाता है, ने करवाया था। इसी कारण यह “सासु जी का मंदिर” कहलाया। यह भी कहा जाता है कि मीराबाई ने अपने वैवाहिक जीवन के प्रारंभिक समय में यहाँ पूजा की, जब उनकी भक्ति अपनी दिशा खोज रही थी।
हालांकि, यह सभी बातें जनश्रुतियों पर आधारित हैं और इनके स्पष्ट ऐतिहासिक प्रमाण उपलब्ध नहीं हैं। ऐतिहासिक रूप से इतना निश्चित है कि यह परंपरा 16वीं शताब्दी के प्रारंभिक काल, अर्थात राणा सांगा के समय से जुड़ी मानी जाती है।
आज यह मंदिर एक भव्य स्मारक नहीं, बल्कि एक शांत साक्षी है — उस समय का, जब मीराबाई की भक्ति अपने आरंभिक स्वरूप में थी।
