Within the mighty walls of Chittorgarh Fort, where every stone carries echoes of valor and devotion, stands a temple that speaks not in one voice—but three.
The Trimukhi Shiva Temple, also known as the Samadhisvara (Lord of Samadhi) Temple, enshrines a rare and powerful form of Lord Shiva—a colossal three-faced idol carved in a single divine presence. Each face reflects a different essence—truth, splendor, and controlled fury—capturing the cosmic balance that Shiva represents.
Its origins are believed to trace back to the early medieval period, between the 8th and 11th centuries, while inscriptions confirm a major restoration in 1428 AD by Maharana Mokal of Mewar. Long before the era of Maharana Kumbha, this temple served as a principal place of worship for the rulers of Mewar, making it a sacred space deeply connected to royal faith.
Built in the Chitrakuta style, the temple consists of a sanctum (garbhagriha), vestibule (antarala), and a mandapa supported by intricately carved pillars. Its walls narrate stories of gods, goddesses, and everyday life of Chittor—frozen in stone across centuries.
Located near the sacred Gaumukh Reservoir within the fort complex, this temple is not just an architectural marvel—it is a timeless embodiment of devotion, power, and spiritual depth.

चित्तौड़गढ़ किले की भव्य दीवारों के बीच, जहाँ हर पत्थर वीरता और आस्था की कहानी सुनाता है, वहीं एक ऐसा मंदिर स्थित है जो एक नहीं, बल्कि तीन रूपों में अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज कराता है।
त्रिमुखी शिव मंदिर, जिसे समाधीश्वर (समाधि के स्वामी) मंदिर के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, अपने गर्भगृह में भगवान शिव के एक अद्भुत त्रिमूर्ति स्वरूप को धारण किए हुए है। यह तीन मुख—सत्य, वैभव और क्रोध—सृष्टि के संतुलन का प्रतीक हैं, जो शिव की दिव्यता को पूर्ण रूप से दर्शाते हैं।
इस मंदिर की उत्पत्ति प्रारंभिक मध्यकाल, लगभग 8वीं से 11वीं शताब्दी के बीच की मानी जाती है, जबकि इसका पुनर्निर्माण 1428 ईस्वी में मेवाड़ के महाराणा मोकल द्वारा कराया गया था, जिसका प्रमाण यहाँ के शिलालेखों से मिलता है। महाराणा कुम्भा के समय से पहले यह मंदिर मेवाड़ के शासकों का प्रमुख पूजा स्थल रहा, जो इसे शाही आस्था का केंद्र बनाता है।
चित्रकूट शैली में निर्मित यह मंदिर गर्भगृह, अंतराल और मंडप से मिलकर बना है। इसकी दीवारों पर देवी-देवताओं और चित्तौड़ के जनजीवन के दृश्य अत्यंत सुंदरता से उकेरे गए हैं।
गौमुख कुंड के समीप स्थित यह मंदिर केवल एक स्थापत्य नहीं, बल्कि मेवाड़ की आध्यात्मिक आत्मा का जीवंत प्रतीक है।
