Resplendent Mughal Memory: The Imperial Pavilion by Pushkar Lake
On the sacred banks of Pushkar Lake, Ajmer, Rajasthan, stands the royal retreat of Mughal Emperor Jahangir — a pair of identical red sandstone pavilions built in 1615 CE (1022 A.H.) under the supervision of Anup Singh Dalan. Located near the cremation ground and behind Jodhpur Ghat, these pavilions still preserve their square and rectangular niches, with an inscription on the southern pavilion confirming the date of construction.
Jahangir, in his memoirs Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri, records that he visited Pushkar more than fifteen times, often ordering alterations to the building. The architecture is trabeated, inspired by Mughal prototypes yet crafted by local artisans — which explains its rustic simplicity compared to imperial works at Agra or Fatehpur Sikri.
An epigraph at the premises mentions the name of Ani Rai Singh Dalan, whose real name was Anup Singh. The titles Rai and Dalan were conferred upon him by Jahangir himself, in recognition of his unquestionable courage when he encountered and subdued a wounded tiger during a royal hunt.

अलंकृत मुग़ल धरोहर: पुष्कर झील के तट पर सम्राट जहाँगीर का शिकार मंडप
अजमेर, राजस्थान की पवित्र पुष्कर झील के किनारे स्थित हैं दो समान लाल बलुआ पत्थर के मंडप, जिन्हें मुग़ल सम्राट जहाँगीर ने 1022 हिजरी (1615 ईस्वी) में अनूप सिंह डालान की देखरेख में बनवाया था। शवदाह स्थल के पास और जोधपुर घाट के पीछे बने ये मंडप अपने वर्गाकार और आयताकार अवकाशों के लिए प्रसिद्ध हैं। दक्षिणी मंडप की पश्चिमी दीवार पर शिलालेख भी मौजूद है, जो निर्माण तिथि की पुष्टि करता है।
जहाँगीर ने अपनी आत्मकथा तुज़ुक-ए-जहाँगीरी में उल्लेख किया है कि वे पुष्कर पंद्रह बार से अधिक आए और अपने आदेश पर इस भवन में कई बार परिवर्तन करवाए। इसका स्थापत्य भले ही मुग़ल शैली का प्रतीक है, पर इसकी सादी और स्थानीय बनावट कारीगरों की छाप दर्शाती है।
प्रांगण में अंकित एक शिलालेख आनी राय सिंह डालान का नाम दर्ज करता है, जिनका वास्तविक नाम अनूप सिंह था। राय और डालन की उपाधि उन्हें स्वयं जहाँगीर ने प्रदान की थी, जब उन्होंने शिकार के दौरान एक घायल बाघ का सामना कर अपनी अदम्य वीरता का प्रदर्शन किया था।
