Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan – India’s Most Haunted Fort.
Bhangarh Fort, built in the 17th century by Raja Madho Singh (brother of Mughal general Man Singh I), was once a prosperous fortified town. It housed over 9,000 homes, majestic havelis, vibrant marketplaces, and beautifully constructed temples.
However, two enduring legends explain its mysterious decline:
1. A hermit named Baba Balu Nath cursed the fort when its structures cast shadows on his meditative space.
2. A sorcerer named Singhia, rejected by Princess Ratnavati, cursed the town, leading to its ruin.
Over time, the fort was abandoned, and its population vanished. Today, it stands in eerie silence. The Archaeological Survey of India bans entry after sunset due to its reputation for being haunted. Yet, its grand ruins still narrate stories of its majestic past.

भानगढ़ का किला 17वीं सदी में राजा माधो सिंह ने बनवाया था, जो मुग़ल सेनापति मानसिंह प्रथम के छोटे भाई थे। यह किला कभी एक समृद्ध नगरी का हिस्सा था, जिसमें 9,000 से अधिक घर, हवेलियाँ, बाज़ार और मंदिर थे।
इसके उजड़ने के पीछे दो लोककथाएँ प्रचलित हैं:
1. साधु बाबा बालू नाथ ने श्राप दिया क्योंकि किले की छाया उनके ध्यान स्थल पर पड़ने लगी थी।
2. एक तांत्रिक सिंघिया ने राजकुमारी रत्नावती द्वारा ठुकराए जाने पर इस नगर को श्रापित कर दिया।
कहते हैं कि श्राप के कारण किला उजड़ गया और उसकी रौनक खत्म हो गई। आज यह किला एक सुनसान विरासत के रूप में खड़ा है। भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण द्वारा सूर्यास्त के बाद प्रवेश वर्जित है। फिर भी इसके खंडहर आज भी अतीत की भव्यता की गवाही देते हैं।
