History of Holi Gate (Hardinge Arch) in Mathura.
Holi Gate, originally called the Hardinge Arch, is one of the four main entryways to Mathura’s old city. Constructed in 1875 to honor Mr. Bradford Hardinge—then Collector of Mathura—it was built as the Agra Gate. Designed by Yusuf, the municipal architect, the structure stands as a grand stone arch crowned with a cupola and flanked by four chhatris. The total cost in 1875 was ₹13,731. Today, it remains a significant colonial-era landmark and an emblem of Mathura’s rich past .
मथुरा में होली गेट (हार्डिंग आर्च) का इतिहास
होली गेट, जिसे पहले हार्डिंग आर्च कहा जाता था, मथुरा के पुराने शहर के चार मुख्य प्रवेश द्वारों में से एक है। इसे 1875 में मथुरा के कलेक्टर श्री ब्रैडफोर्ड हार्डिंग के सम्मान में आगरा द्वार के रूप में बनाया गया था। नगर वास्तुकार यूसुफ द्वारा इसकी डिजाइन तैयार की गई थी। यह एक भव्य पत्थर की मीनार है, जिसके ऊपरी भाग में क्यूपोला और चारों कोनों में छतरियाँ बनी हैं। निर्माण की कुल लागत ₹13,731 थी। आज यह ब्रिटिश युग की स्मृति और मथुरा की समृद्ध संस्कृति का प्रतीक है ।
