How India got the Presidents buggy? Here comes the lesser known fact. At the time of Partition, regiments under the Governor General’s Bodyguards (GGBG) (now known as the President’s Bodyguards) were divided in a 2:1 ratio. The Muslim soldiers joined Pakistan army and the Rajput, Jat and Sikh units remained with Indian side. However, when it came to the viceroy’s buggy, neither country was willing to give up its claim. Both India and Pakistan wanted the fancy buggy, and there was no longer a higher power to sort this quarrel. So, guess what they did to sort the dispute? Simple, they did what cricket captains do these days. Toss. Partition records say that the commandant of the GGBG Lt Col Thakur Govind Singh from India and his Muslim counterpart Major Sahabzada Yaqub Khan from Pakistan army tossed a coin to decide to which country the buggy should belong. And India 🇮🇳 won the toss and clinched the royal buggy!!
