Standing quietly along the Hindaun–Bayana road in Rajasthan, the Jahangiri Darwaza is not just an architectural fragment—it is a silent witness to a passing empire. Today, it appears worn, almost forgotten, yet its stones still echo a time when Bayana was a significant Mughal outpost.
Historically known as Sultankot, Bayana held strategic and administrative importance during the Mughal era. The gateway is widely believed to be associated with the reign of Emperor Jahangir, particularly linked to his recorded movements through the region around 1617–18, as mentioned in the Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri.
While no fully preserved inscription here clearly confirms its exact date of construction, the stylistic features—arched recesses, robust stone masonry, and Persian inscription panels—firmly place it within the Mughal architectural vocabulary of the early 17th century. Structures like this were often erected to commemorate imperial routes, halts, or administrative presence.
Around it, the landscape still whispers history—nearby remains of baolis and older fortifications such as Vijaymandirgarh Fort reinforce Bayana’s once-thriving significance. Yet today, this gateway stands in neglect, its inscriptions fading, its story slowly dissolving into silence.

कुछ दरवाज़े सिर्फ रास्ता दिखाते हैं… और कुछ इतिहास सँभालते हैं।
राजस्थान के बयाना नगर में स्थित जहांगीरी दरवाज़ा आज खामोशी में खड़ा है, जैसे समय के साथ खुद को भूलता जा रहा हो। लेकिन इसकी दीवारों में अब भी एक दौर की आहट महसूस होती है—जब यह स्थान मुग़ल शासन का एक महत्वपूर्ण केंद्र हुआ करता था।
पुराने समय में सुल्तानकोट के नाम से जाना जाने वाला बयाना, मुग़ल प्रशासन और सैन्य दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण था। माना जाता है कि यह दरवाज़ा सम्राट जहांगीर के समय से जुड़ा हुआ है, विशेष रूप से उनके 1617–18 के आसपास इस क्षेत्र से गुजरने के उल्लेख से, जो तुज़ुक-ए-जहांगीरी में मिलता है।
हालाँकि इस दरवाज़े पर मौजूद शिलालेख अब पूरी तरह स्पष्ट नहीं हैं, लेकिन इसकी स्थापत्य शैली—मेहराबदार आकृतियाँ, मज़बूत पत्थर की बनावट और फारसी लेखन—इसे प्रारंभिक 17वीं शताब्दी के मुग़ल काल से जोड़ती हैं।
इसके आसपास के खंडहर, बावड़ियाँ और विजयमंदिरगढ़ किला इस बात के गवाह हैं कि बयाना कभी इतिहास के केंद्र में था। आज यह दरवाज़ा उपेक्षा का शिकार है, लेकिन इसकी खामोशी में अब भी एक कहानी छिपी है।
