What makes this temple truly extraordinary lies beneath… An underground sanctum, supported by 16 intricately carved pillars, houses a rare 4.5-foot dark green idol of Lord Munisuvratnath seated in padmasana. Descending into this space feels less like entering a basement and more like stepping into a timeless realm of silence and devotion. Local Jain traditions speak of an “Atishay” — a divine miracle. It is believed that when an invader attempted to damage the idol, a stream of milk flowed from its toe, halting the act. Even today, devotees point to marks on the idol as silent witnesses of that moment. While this remains part of oral tradition, its spiritual significance continues to draw pilgrims from across the country. The site also holds intellectual importance in Jain history. Acharya Nemichandra Siddhanta Chakravarti, a revered 10th-century Jain scholar, is believed to have composed the Laghudravya Sangraha here — adding a layer of philosophical depth to its sacred aura. Over time, the temple complex evolved, with additions including idols dating back to the medieval period, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship.
