In the heart of Orchha’s majestic fort complex stands the serene Kothi of Shyam Daua—a historical mansion built with compassion and memory. Legend holds that after Raiman (Balwant) Daua and his family tragically ended their lives, Maharaja Vir Singh Deo brought Raiman’s pregnant daughter-in-law to Orchha. He built this kothi for her, and it came to be known as the Kothi of Shyam Daua—named after her son, who later fell in battle in 1634 A.D. The mansion’s architecture and its vantage point overlooking temples and the River Betwa make it a quietly powerful heritage site.

श्यामदाऊ की कोठी, ओरछा: परंपरा और संवेदना की इमारत
ओरछा के किलों के बीच स्थित श्यामदाऊ की कोठी एक ऐसी ऐतिहासिक इमारत है, जो करुणा और स्मृति से जुड़ी हुई है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जब रैमान (बलवन्त) दाऊ और उनके परिवार ने दुखद रूप से आत्महत्या कर ली, तब महाराजा वीर सिंह देव ने उनकी गर्भवती पुत्रवधू को ओरछा लाकर इस कोठी का निर्माण करवाया था। यह कोठी श्यामदाऊ के नाम पर जानी जाती है—उनके पुत्र के नाम पर, जो 1634 ईस्वी में युद्ध में शहीद हो गए थे। इस कोठी की वास्तुकला और मंदिरों तथा बेतवा नदी पर इसका अप्रतिम दृश्य इसे एक शांत लेकिन प्रभावशाली ऐतिहासिक स्थल बनाता है।
