Standing quietly in the historic town of Chanderi, the Purani Kachahari reflects an era when governance and justice shaped the urban life of the region. Constructed during the 17th–18th centuries under Bundela rule, this three-storey building once functioned as Chanderi’s principal administrative and judicial centre. Its grand entrance, carved stone pillars, and projecting jharokhas reveal the authority and refinement of Bundela architecture.
Chanderi’s importance predates this structure by several centuries. As early as the 10th–11th century, the city rose to prominence under Raja Kirtipal. Owing to its strategic location, Chanderi later witnessed repeated contests for control, involving figures such as Medini Rai and Sher Shah Suri. The Purani Kachahari stands today as a layered reminder of this long administrative and political journey.

पुरानी कचहरी, चंदेरी — न्याय और इतिहास की मूक गवाही
चंदेरी नगर के ऐतिहासिक परिवेश में स्थित पुरानी कचहरी उस समय की स्मृति है जब यहीं से शासन और न्याय का संचालन होता था। 17वीं–18वीं शताब्दी में बुंदेला शासकों द्वारा निर्मित यह तीन-मंज़िला इमारत कभी चंदेरी का प्रमुख प्रशासनिक एवं न्यायिक केंद्र रही। इसका भव्य प्रवेश द्वार, नक्काशीदार स्तंभ और सुंदर जरोखे उस काल की स्थापत्य-समृद्धि को स्पष्ट करते हैं।
चंदेरी का इतिहास इससे भी कहीं अधिक प्राचीन है। 10वीं–11वीं शताब्दी में राजा कीर्तिपाल के समय यह नगर एक महत्वपूर्ण राजधानी के रूप में उभरा। आगे चलकर इसकी रणनीतिक स्थिति के कारण यह अनेक राजनीतिक संघर्षों का साक्षी बना। पुरानी कचहरी आज भी चंदेरी की प्रशासनिक और न्यायिक विरासत को शांत रूप से संजोए हुए खड़ी है।
