फूटा कुआँ, मेरठ — इस शहर में कितने “कुआँ” अब भी ज़िंदा हैं?
पुराने मेरठ की गलियों में, बुढ़ाना गेट के पास, एक ऐसा ढांचा खड़ा है जिस पर अक्सर नज़र ही नहीं जाती।
टूटी दीवारें…
मिटते हुए मेहराब…
और एक शांत कोना, जो अब भी ज़िंदा है।
इसे लोग फूटा कुआँ के नाम से जानते हैं।
लेकिन यह सिर्फ एक जगह की बात नहीं है।
क्योंकि मेरठ में ऐसे कई नाम हैं —
गोला कुआँ… बीरू कुआँ… खारी कुआँ…
और शायद कई और, जो आज भी लोगों की ज़ुबान पर हैं।
क्या आपने कभी सोचा है —

शायद यह जानवरों के लिए बनाया गया होगा।

क्या यह टैंक शुरू से ही इस कुएँ का हिस्सा था,
या बाद में जोड़ा गया?
इसका कोई स्पष्ट उत्तर नहीं मिलता।
एक ऐसी जगह,
जहाँ लोग पानी भरते थे,
और शायद जानवरों के लिए भी व्यवस्था थी।
आज यह टूटा हुआ है…
लेकिन इसका नाम अब भी ज़िंदा है।
