Long before colonial records began shaping the narrative of North India, Behsuma held regional importance under Gurjar ruler Raja Nain Singh Nagar. Born in 1746, his life unfolded during a politically complex eighteenth century, marked by Mughal authority, Maratha movements, and rising regional powers.
Raja Nain Singh Nagar is remembered for strengthening administration and defence in the Meerut region. Historical accounts associate him with the restoration of Parikshitgarh Fort and patronage of important religious sites around Hastinapur. Behsuma itself developed as a strategic centre, with havelis, Diwan-e-Aam spaces, and underground passages reflecting a governance system where security and public life coexisted.
Beyond warfare, his legacy is rooted in governance. He supported agriculture during droughts, maintained water resources, and upheld a policy of religious coexistence, extending respect to Hindu, Jain, and Sikh traditions alike. Behsuma today stands as a quiet reminder of a regional ruler whose influence shaped the cultural and historical landscape of Meerut.

बेहसूमा — गुर्जर राजा नैन सिंह नागर की विरासत, मेरठ
औपनिवेशिक इतिहास के बनने से बहुत पहले, मेरठ क्षेत्र का बेहसूमा गुर्जर शासक राजा नैन सिंह नागर के नेतृत्व में एक महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्रीय केन्द्र था। 1746 में जन्मे राजा नैन सिंह का शासनकाल अठारहवीं सदी की राजनीतिक उथल-पुथल से जुड़ा रहा, जब मुगल सत्ता और मराठा गतिविधियाँ पूरे उत्तर भारत को प्रभावित कर रही थीं।
इतिहास में उनका नाम परीक्षितगढ़ किले के संरक्षण और हस्तिनापुर क्षेत्र के धार्मिक स्थलों के विकास से जुड़ा है। बेहसूमा में आज भी हवेलियों, दीवाने-आम और सुरंगों के अवशेष उस समय की प्रशासनिक और सैन्य व्यवस्था की झलक देते हैं।
राजा नैन सिंह को एक दूरदर्शी शासक के रूप में भी स्मरण किया जाता है, जिन्होंने अकाल के समय किसानों को राहत दी, जल संरचनाओं का विकास कराया और सभी धर्मों के प्रति सम्मान की नीति अपनाई। बेहसूमा आज भी मेरठ के उस भूले-बिसरे इतिहास की साक्षी है।
