When justice was delivered in the Nirbhaya case on 20 March 2020, it was Pawan Jallad, a fourth-generation executioner from Meerut, who carried out the hanging of all four convicts at Tihar Jail — only the second time in independent India that four were hanged together.

From his great-grandfather Laxman, to grandfather Kalu Ram, to father Mammu, and now Pawan himself — the Jallad profession runs deep in this Meerut-based family.
Pawan performed his first execution in Patiala Jail at the age of 20–22, under the guidance of his grandfather.

Despite the rare nature of his job, Pawan leads a humble life. With a family of five daughters and two sons, he now sells clothes door-to-door in villages to support his household.
Even after such a significant act of national justice, recognition was short-lived. Interviews, applause, and felicitation ceremonies soon faded — but the struggles remained.

Despite his story and service, he was incredibly kind and humble, a reminder that behind every legacy is a deeply human soul.

20 मार्च 2020, निर्भया कांड के चारों गुनहगारों को जब तिहाड़ जेल में फांसी दी गई, तो उस ऐतिहासिक पल का गवाह बना एक इंसान — पवन जल्लाद, जो उत्तर प्रदेश के मेरठ, भगवतपुरा, भूमिया का पुल इलाके में रहते हैं। यह आज़ाद भारत में दूसरी बार था जब चार अपराधियों को एक साथ फांसी दी गई।

पवन जल्लाद अपने परदादा लक्ष्मण, दादा कालू राम, और पिता मम्मू जल्लाद के बाद इस पेशे को निभा रहे हैं।
उन्होंने 20-22 वर्ष की उम्र में पटियाला जेल में अपने दादा के साथ पहली फांसी दी थी।

निर्भया कांड के बाद मिली शोहरत क्षणिक रही।
सम्मान मिला, मीडिया ने बात की — लेकिन फिर सब भूल गए।
