A Sweet Legacy from Baghpat to the World
Small in size but mighty in taste, the Ratol mango (also called Anwar Ratol) is one of the sweetest and most cherished mango varieties in the world.
Originating from Ratol village in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh — just 60 km from Meerut — this variety is low in fiber and packed with an intensely sweet flavor.
???? The original Ratol mango first grew in Anwarul Haq’s orchard, Mubarak Bagh, and gained fame by the name Ratol Aam.
???? After Partition, his elder son Abrarul Haq migrated to Pakistan, taking the saplings with him and naming the variety there after his father — hence Anwar Ratol.
???? Today, it is among Pakistan’s top exported mangoes — and even featured on a Pakistani postage stamp in its honor.
There are two seasonal types:
• Early-season Ratol (May–June): Soft, fragile, extremely sweet — but easily damaged by wind or rain.
• Late-season Ratol (July–August): More stable, thicker skin, slightly less sweet.
???? In 1935, at the London Mango Festival, Nawab Ahmad Said Khan of Chhatari (then India’s Agriculture Minister) took Ratol mangoes to represent India.
???? The result? Ratol Aam won first prize and was declared the world’s best mango!
रटौल आम – फलो का असली राजा
बागपत के छोटे से गांव से निकलकर पूरी दुनिया में छाया
छोटा कद, गजब की मिठास — रटौल आम को यूं ही नहीं ‘मिनी पावरहाउस’ कहा जाता है।
इसकी उत्पत्ति उत्तर प्रदेश के बागपत जिले के रटौल गांव में हुई, जो मेरठ से मात्र 60 किलोमीटर दूर है।
???? इसे सबसे पहले अनवरुल हक के मुबारक बाग में उगाया गया।
???? विभाजन के बाद, उनके बेटे अब्बरारुल हक पाकिस्तान चले गए और रटौल आम की पौध भी साथ ले गए। वहां इस आम को अनवर रटौल नाम दिया गया।
???? यह आज पाकिस्तान के प्रमुख निर्यात आमों में से एक है, और इस पर डाक टिकट भी जारी किया गया।
इस आम की दो किस्में होती हैं:
• शुरुआती किस्म (मई-जून): बहुत ही नाजुक और अत्यधिक मीठी, पर तेज हवा या बारिश से जल्दी खराब हो जाती है।
• देर की किस्म (जुलाई–अगस्त): मोटी छाल वाली और स्थायी, लेकिन मिठास थोड़ी कम।
???? 1935 में लंदन में आम महोत्सव में छतारी के नवाब अहमद सईद खान, जो उस समय भारत के कृषि मंत्री थे, रटौल आम लेकर गए।
???? वहां रटौल आम को फर्स्ट प्राइज मिला और इसे दुनिया का सबसे अच्छा आम घोषित किया गया।
