The Shikra at Ajay’s Window – A Morning Visitor.
This morning, my friend Ajay had a rare and majestic visitor at his residence — the Shikra (Accipiter badius), also known as the Little Banded Goshawk.
With its piercing yellow eyes, streaked chest, and agile frame, the Shikra is one of the most fascinating birds of prey found across Asia and Africa. Despite its small size, it is a swift hunter, preying on lizards, insects, small birds, and rodents.
What makes it truly special is its adaptability — from dense forests to city edges, even perching calmly on a window grill in the heart of urban life. Ajay’s photographs capture not just the bird, but also the aura of wild grace meeting human spaces.

अजय की खिड़की पर शिकरा – सुबह का मेहमान
आज सुबह मेरे मित्र अजय के घर की खिड़की पर एक अद्भुत और शानदार मेहमान आया – शिकरा (Accipiter badius), जिसे छोटा बैंडेड गॉशहॉक भी कहा जाता है।
अपनी चमकती हुई पीली आंखों, धारीदार सीने और फुर्तीले शरीर के साथ शिकरा एक बेहद रोचक शिकारी पक्षी है। छोटा होने के बावजूद यह बेहद तेज़ उड़ाकू है और छिपकलियों, छोटे पक्षियों, चूहों व कीड़ों का शिकार करता है।
इसकी सबसे ख़ास बात है इसकी अनुकूलता – गहरे जंगलों से लेकर शहर की गलियों तक, यहां तक कि घर की खिड़की पर भी यह आराम से बैठ जाता है। अजय द्वारा ली गई तस्वीरें केवल पक्षी ही नहीं बल्कि जंगल और इंसानी जीवन के अद्भुत संगम को भी दिखाती हैं।
