Built in the early 18th century during the reign of Maharaja Ajit Singh, this three-storey structure was conceived not as a palace of leisure, but as a tower of vigilance.
In an era when Mandore still held strategic importance, this solitary pillar-like building functioned as a watchtower, allowing sentries to survey the surrounding landscape and protect the approaches to Jodhpur. Constructed between 1707 and 1724 CE, the structure reflects the Rajput emphasis on defence blended seamlessly with refined aesthetics.
Carved from red sandstone, Ek Thamba Mahal showcases delicate yet restrained craftsmanship. Its vertical form, rising in measured proportions, speaks of purpose over ornamentation — a hallmark of Marwar’s military architecture. Today, as modern life flows past Mandore, this forgotten sentinel continues to watch, carrying within its stone walls the memory of a time when alert eyes guarded the kingdom.

एक थंबा महल, जोधपुर
मारवाड़ की निगरानी का मौन प्रहरी
मंडोर गार्डन के समीप स्थित एक थंबा महल पहली दृष्टि में भले ही साधारण प्रतीत हो, लेकिन इसकी चुप्पी में इतिहास की गूंज बसती है। 18वीं शताब्दी के आरंभ में मारवाड़ के शासक महाराजा अजीत सिंह के काल में निर्मित यह तीन मंज़िला भवन किसी विलास का नहीं, बल्कि सतर्क निगरानी का प्रतीक था।
1707 से 1724 ईस्वी के बीच निर्मित यह संरचना प्रहरी मीनार के रूप में कार्य करती थी, जहाँ से मंडोर और उसके आसपास के क्षेत्रों पर दृष्टि रखी जाती थी। उस समय मंडोर केवल एक उद्यान नहीं, बल्कि सामरिक दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्र था।
लाल बलुआ पत्थर से निर्मित यह भवन राजपूत स्थापत्य की सादगी और मजबूती का सुंदर उदाहरण है। इसकी ऊर्ध्वाकार संरचना और सूक्ष्म नक्काशी उस युग की सोच को दर्शाती है, जहाँ सुरक्षा और सौंदर्य दोनों समान रूप से महत्वपूर्ण थे। आज भी यह मौन प्रहरी अपने पत्थरों में मारवाड़ की स्मृतियाँ संजोए खड़ा है।
