In his 19th-century work, Asar-us-Sanadid, Syed Ahmad Khan recorded that this tomb belongs to Fahim Khan, an attendant of Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khanan, who died in 1626 during the reign of Jahangir. Yet, architectural scholars from the Archaeological Survey of India suggest something even more intriguing—that this structure may have existed before Humayun’s Tomb itself. If that is true, then this silent dome has witnessed the rise of one of India’s greatest Mughal monuments from the very beginning. Once, its surface shimmered with turquoise, blue, green, and white glazed tiles—so vivid that the monument earned its name, “Nila Gumbad,” the Blue Dome. Today, time has stripped much of that brilliance away, leaving only fragments—like fading memories of a glorious past. The structure itself is simple yet deeply expressive. A square plan with chamfered edges rises into a cylindrical drum, carrying a hemispherical dome. Inside, there is no mihrab, no cenotaph, no inscription loudly declaring identity.
