Hidden deep within the massive walls of Mehrangarh Fort lies the Sheesh Mahal, the famed Palace of Mirrors, a space that once reflected royal power, devotion, and refined taste. Part of the private apartments of Maharaja Ajit Singh of Marwar, this chamber took its present artistic form in the early 18th century, following his restoration to full sovereignty after 1707.
The walls are adorned with delicate convex mirror inlays set into richly painted panels, designed to shimmer under the glow of a single flame. Religious imagery of Hindu deities painted within arched alcoves reveals the deep cultural and spiritual influences shaping Rajput court life of the period. In the 19th century, the room saw subtle European additions, including a glass chandelier, while the original mirror ceiling is now preserved and displayed on the floor.
Standing here, one witnesses not just architectural beauty, but the silent luxury of Marwar’s royal past.

मेहरानगढ़ किले की प्राचीरों के भीतर स्थित शीश महल, मारवाड़ के शाही वैभव और कलात्मक संवेदनशीलता का अद्भुत उदाहरण है। यह महल महाराजा अजीत सिंह के निजी आवास का हिस्सा था और इसका वर्तमान अलंकरण 18वीं शताब्दी के प्रारंभ में, 1707 के बाद उनके पूर्ण शासनकाल के दौरान विकसित हुआ।
दीवारों पर जड़े उत्तल दर्पण, रंगीन काँच और धार्मिक चित्रांकन, दीपक की रोशनी में पूरे कक्ष को जीवंत कर देते थे। मेहराबों में अंकित देव प्रतिमाएँ उस समय की सांस्कृतिक और धार्मिक चेतना को दर्शाती हैं। 19वीं शताब्दी में इसमें यूरोपीय झूमर जोड़ा गया, जबकि मूल शीशे की छत आज संरक्षित रूप में नीचे प्रदर्शित है।
