Abul Nabi Tomb, Mathura – A Forgotten Mughal Legacy
In the heart of Mathura, just off the Old Vrindavan Road near Masani Tiraha, stands a quiet and fading reminder of Mughal history — the 17th-century tomb of Abul Nabi, the faujdar (army commander) of Mathura under Emperor Aurangzeb.
Appointed in 1660, Abul Nabi held a position of significant military authority during a turbulent time. His final resting place, built in red sandstone, lies within a graveyard complex that today remains largely unprotected and neglected.
The structure is laid out on a symmetrical square plan and crowned by a dome, with carved decorative corbels and rectangular panels running along the drum beneath the dome. Inside, a single gravestone marks the spot of Abul Nabi’s burial.
Over the years, inappropriate modifications such as cement plastering on the dome and the addition of a metal grill have altered the original Mughal character of the tomb. Despite these changes, the site continues to hold silent testimony to Mathura’s layered past — a chapter often overlooked in the city’s sacred landscape.

मथुरा के मसानी तिराहे के पास पुराने वृंदावन रोड पर स्थित एक कब्रिस्तान में आज भी मुग़ल काल का एक शांत साक्ष्य मौजूद है — अबुल नबी का मकबरा।
अबुल नबी को मुगल सम्राट औरंगज़ेब ने वर्ष 1660 में मथुरा का फौजदार नियुक्त किया था। यह मकबरा उनका अंतिम विश्राम स्थल है, जो उस दौर की वास्तुकला और इतिहास का प्रमाण है।
