Constructed in 1170 AD by Mahajan Lala during King Someshvara’s reign, the temple celebrates the 23rd Tirthankar, Parshvanath. The temple's story began with a dream. Shri Lolark, a businessman from Ujjain, experienced a divine vision while on a pilgrimage. He was directed to dig near a pond, where he unearthed a magnificent idol of Parshvanath. However, this original idol mysteriously vanished, prompting the installation of a new idol in the temple. The Bijoliya Parshvanath Temple is said to be over 2,750 years old and holds great significance in Jainism. It is believed to be the place where Parshvanath achieved Kevala gyan (omniscience) and confronted his enemy, Kamattha, who provoked him. Furthermore, it is said to be the first site of Parshvanath's Samavasarana, where he delivered his teachings. The temple features panchayatan architecture, with a central shrine and four subsidiary shrines, surrounded by smaller temples dedicated to other Tirthankars. The walls are adorned with petroglyphs and inscriptions, including the Jaina poem Uttama Sikhara Purana, which narrates the temple's significance. In 1858, British explorers, captivated by tales of hidden treasure, attempted to excavate the site. But as they set explosives, a swarm of honey bees drove them away, and milk inexplicably flowed from the mines, further enchanting the legends of this sacred place.
