स्थानीय लोग प्यार से मस्जिद को जिन्नाती मस्जिद कहते थे, उनका मानना था कि यह एक ऐसी जगह है जहाँ आत्माओं को शांति मिलती है। दूसरों ने इसे "बिलियन वाली मस्जिद" कहा, जो सूरज की रोशनी से जगमगाते आंगनों में रहने वाली बिल्लियों की अंतहीन संख्या को दर्शाता है, जो उस जीवन का जीवंत प्रमाण है जो नुकसान की छाया में भी फलता-फूलता रहा।
