In the heart of Kota lies one such marvel — Jag Mandir Palace, rising gracefully from the calm waters of Kishore Sagar Lake. The story of this setting begins centuries earlier, in 1346 CE, when Prince Dheer Deh of Bundi ordered the construction of a vast artificial reservoir that later came to be known as Kishore Sagar.
Almost four centuries later, in 1740 CE, a queen of the Kota royal household chose this serene island in the lake to build a pleasure palace — a retreat meant for royal leisure, reflection, and beauty.
Built in red sandstone, Jag Mandir embodies the elegance of Rajput architecture. Delicate jharokhas lean over the water, finely carved pillars support graceful arches, and small chhatris crown the palace skyline. When the evening light touches the sandstone walls, the palace reflects perfectly in the lake, creating one of the most enchanting sights in Rajasthan.
Inside the palace complex once existed carefully planned gardens filled with flowering plants, accompanied by ornate fountains that cooled the air and enhanced the royal atmosphere. Though time has changed much around it, the palace still whispers stories of royal gatherings, quiet evenings by the lake, and the artistic brilliance of Rajput craftsmen.
Today, Jag Mandir stands not merely as a monument but as a timeless symbol of Kota’s heritage — a palace that appears to float between history and reflection.

कुछ महल धरती पर खड़े होते हैं… और कुछ ऐसे भी होते हैं जो पानी के बीच किसी स्वप्न की तरह तैरते प्रतीत होते हैं।
राजस्थान के कोटा शहर में स्थित जग मंदिर पैलेस ऐसा ही एक अद्भुत महल है, जो किशोर सागर झील के मध्य एक छोटे से द्वीप पर बना हुआ है। इस कहानी की शुरुआत और भी पहले होती है — सन् 1346 में, जब बूंदी के राजकुमार धीर देव ने एक विशाल कृत्रिम जलाशय का निर्माण करवाया, जिसे बाद में किशोर सागर झील कहा जाने लगा।
लगभग चार शताब्दियों बाद, सन् 1740 में, कोटा की एक महारानी ने इस शांत द्वीप को एक राजसी विश्रामस्थल के रूप में विकसित करने का निर्णय लिया। यहीं पर जग मंदिर पैलेस का निर्माण हुआ — एक ऐसा महल जो राजपरिवार के विश्राम, सौंदर्य और आनंद के लिए बनाया गया था।
लाल बलुआ पत्थर से निर्मित यह महल राजपूत स्थापत्य कला का सुंदर उदाहरण है। झील की ओर झुकी हुई नक्काशीदार झरोखियाँ, सुंदर मेहराबें, और छोटे-छोटे छत्रियों से सजी इसकी छतें इसे अत्यंत आकर्षक बनाती हैं। जब सांझ का प्रकाश इस महल की दीवारों पर पड़ता है और उसका प्रतिबिंब झील के जल में दिखाई देता है, तब यह दृश्य किसी चित्रकला जैसा लगता है।
महल के भीतर कभी सुंदर उद्यान हुआ करते थे, जिनमें विविध प्रकार के फूल-पौधे लगाए गए थे। साथ ही यहाँ बने प्राचीन फव्वारे वातावरण को शीतल और आनंदमय बनाते थे। समय के साथ बहुत कुछ बदल गया, लेकिन आज भी यह महल अपने भीतर राजसी जीवन, शांत शामों और राजपूत शिल्पकारों की अद्भुत कला की कहानियाँ समेटे खड़ा है।
