Jajau Baoli – A Forgotten Mughal Marvel.
Hidden amidst cultivated fields a few kilometers from Agra, lies the crumbling yet captivating Jajau Baoli (stepwell)—a red sandstone structure believed to have been built during the reign of Aurangzeb.
With its octagonal layout and triple-storeyed design, the baoli was once a vital source of water for travelers and the local settlement of Sarai Jajau.
Today, though in a ruined state—its roof now used by locals and its walls marked by time—the baoli still carries the echoes of Mughal-era ingenuity. Nearby, a beautiful stepwell with pointed arches stands as a testament to medieval architecture, though now used by villagers for storage.
There is no written record of its construction, but oral history and local wisdom fill in the blanks where official archives fall silent.
Even in neglect, the charm of this structure refuses to fade.
जजाऊ बावली – एक भूला-बिसरा मुग़ल शाहकार
आगरा से कुछ किलोमीटर की दूरी पर, खेतों के बीच छिपी है जजाऊ बावली, जो लाल बलुआ पत्थर से बनी तीन मंजिला अष्टकोणीय संरचना है, संभवतः औरंगज़ेब के दौर की।
यह सराय जजाऊ क्षेत्र में पीने के पानी की बड़ी समस्या को ध्यान में रखकर बनाई गई थी। पास ही में एक खूबसूरत सीढ़ीदार कुआं भी मौजूद है, जो आज भी अपनी नुकीली मेहराबों से उस दौर की वास्तुकला का परिचय देता है।
आज यह बावली टूट चुकी है, इसकी छत का इस्तेमाल स्थानीय लोग करते हैं और इसकी दीवारें अब समय के साथ बिखर चुकी हैं। बावली के आसपास कोई लिखित विवरण नहीं मिलता, परंतु स्थानीय लोग इसकी कहानी आज भी सुनाते हैं।
वक़्त ने बहुत कुछ बदल दिया, लेकिन इस बावली की ख़ामोशी में आज भी इतिहास की गूंज सुनाई देती है।
