In the quiet landscape near Khekra in Baghpat district lies Bada Gaon — a place where history, belief, and epic memory blend into something truly unique.
At the heart of this village stands the revered Maa Mansa Devi Mandir, a shrine deeply rooted in local tradition and devotion. The temple is widely believed by villagers to be connected to Ravana, the king of Lanka from the Ramayana.
According to long-standing local belief, Ravana, after intense penance, received the blessing of Devi Shakti and was carrying her towards Lanka. A condition was placed — the idol must never be set down on earth. However, when he halted near present-day Bada Gaon, he entrusted the idol to a local villager. Unable to hold its weight, the villager placed it on the ground, and the divine energy established itself permanently at this very spot.
It is from this moment, locals believe, that Maa Mansa Devi chose Bada Gaon as her abode.
What makes this village truly extraordinary is its living tradition — unlike the rest of India, the effigy of Ravana is not burned here during Dussehra. Instead, he is remembered with a sense of respect, as the one associated with the origin of this sacred place.
The temple today is regarded as a powerful Siddh Peeth, drawing devotees from across regions, especially during Navratri. Another unique belief persists — tying a sacred thread within the temple परिसर is said to fulfill wishes.
While these accounts are rooted in oral tradition and local belief rather than documented historical records, they form an essential part of Baghpat’s cultural identity — where mythology is not just remembered, but lived.

बागपत जनपद के खेकड़ा के पास स्थित बड़ागांव एक ऐसा स्थान है जहाँ इतिहास, आस्था और पौराणिक परंपराएँ एक साथ जीवित दिखाई देती हैं।
इस गाँव के केंद्र में स्थित है माँ मनसा देवी मंदिर, जो स्थानीय मान्यताओं के अनुसार अत्यंत प्राचीन और चमत्कारी धाम माना जाता है। ग्रामीणों के अनुसार इस मंदिर का संबंध लंकापति रावण से जुड़ा हुआ है।
किंवदंती के अनुसार रावण ने कठोर तपस्या के बाद देवी शक्ति को प्राप्त किया और उन्हें लंका ले जा रहा था। शर्त यह थी कि यात्रा के दौरान देवी को भूमि पर नहीं रखा जाएगा। लेकिन जब रावण बड़ागांव पहुँचा, तो उसे कुछ समय के लिए रुकना पड़ा और उसने एक ग्रामीण को देवी की मूर्ति सौंप दी। ग्रामीण उस भार को संभाल नहीं पाया और मूर्ति को भूमि पर रख दिया, जिसके बाद देवी वहीं स्थापित हो गईं।
यहीं से माँ मनसा देवी का यह धाम स्थापित माना जाता है।
इस गाँव की सबसे अनोखी परंपरा यह है कि यहाँ दशहरे पर रावण का पुतला नहीं जलाया जाता। स्थानीय लोग रावण को इस धाम की स्थापना से जुड़ा मानकर उसका सम्मान करते हैं।
आज यह मंदिर एक सिद्ध पीठ के रूप में प्रसिद्ध है और विशेष रूप से नवरात्रि के समय यहाँ दूर-दूर से श्रद्धालु दर्शन के लिए आते हैं। यहाँ एक और मान्यता प्रचलित है कि मंदिर परिसर में धागा बाँधने से मनोकामनाएँ पूर्ण होती हैं।
हालाँकि ये विवरण मुख्यतः स्थानीय परंपराओं और जनश्रुतियों पर आधारित हैं, फिर भी यह बागपत की सांस्कृतिक पहचान का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा हैं।
