Perched high above Jaipur’s pink sprawl, the Nahargarh Fort holds within its walls a hidden gem — Madhvendra Bhawan, a palace that once echoed with the laughter of queens and whispers of the desert wind. Commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1734 and later expanded by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II, this was conceived as a serene summer retreat for the royal family.
The palace is a marvel of royal planning — nine identical suites for the queens, each connected through airy corridors to the king’s central suite. These corridors open to a vast terrace offering sweeping views of Jaipur below. Inside, delicate frescoes, intricate arish mirror work, and pastel floral walls reflect the soft luxury of an era gone by.
A tale still lingers in the fort’s stones — it is said that the fort was once haunted by the restless spirit of Prince Nahar Singh Bhomia. To pacify him, a temple was built in his honour, and the fort came to be known as Nahargarh, “the Abode of Nahar.”
Today, Madhvendra Bhawan stands not as a residence, but as a museum of memories — a silent chronicle of the Rajputana soul, where history and legend still breathe together.

जयपुर की गुलाबी धरती के ऊपर अरावली की पहाड़ियों पर स्थित नाहरगढ़ किला अपने भीतर एक अनमोल रत्न छिपाए हुए है — माधवेंद्र भवन। इसे महाराजा सवाई जय सिंह द्वितीय ने 1734 ईस्वी में बनवाया था और बाद में महाराजा सवाई मधो सिंह द्वितीय ने इसे शाही परिवार के ग्रीष्मकालीन निवास के रूप में विकसित किया।
भवन की रचना अद्भुत है — नौ रानियों के लिए समान कक्ष और बीच में राजा के लिए केंद्रीय अपार्टमेंट। ये सभी गलियारों से जुड़े हैं जो छत की ओर खुलते हैं, जहाँ से पूरा जयपुर शहर दिखाई देता है। भीतर की दीवारों पर बनी नाजुक चित्रकारी, अरीश काँच-कला और फूलों से सजी सजावट राजस्थानी शान की कहानी कहती है।
कहानी यह भी है कि निर्माण के दौरान यहाँ नाहर सिंह भोंइया नामक राजकुमार की आत्मा विचरण करती थी। उसकी शांति के लिए मंदिर बनवाया गया और तब से किले का नाम पड़ा — नाहरगढ़, अर्थात “नाहर का घर।”
