In Agra, the Taj Mahal is not only wrapped in marble and memories, but also in myths. One enduring tale says that when Shah Jahan laid the foundation, jinn would destroy the work each night. Artisans feared to stay. To counter this, it is believed, Shah Jahan summoned Pir Hazrat Ahmed Bukhari from Bukhara, along with his brothers Jalal, Amjad, and Lal Bukhari. The legend tells how they recited verses of the Quran, performed sacred rites, and only then did the foundation stand firm. After their deaths, shrines for these four saints were built at the four corners of the Taj’s surroundings — said to guard the monument against any supernatural harm.
Even today, visitors whisper that as long as these dargahs exist, no spirit or jinn can touch the Taj. Yet historians remind us — no authentic Mughal record or scholarly evidence confirms such a tale. It belongs more to folklore than to history, a story carried in the voices of guides and the faith of locals. The Taj, therefore, stands not only as a marvel of love but also as a canvas where fact and legend blend.

आगरा का ताजमहल केवल संगमरमर का अजूबा नहीं, बल्कि मिथकों से भी घिरा हुआ है। लोककथा कहती है कि जब शाहजहां ने इसकी नींव रखवाई, तो रात में जिन्न आकर उसे ढहा देते थे। कारीगर डरकर रुकने को तैयार न थे। तब बादशाह ने बुखारा के पीर हजरत अहमद बुखारी और उनके भाइयों सैय्यद जलाल, अमजद और लाल बुखारी को बुलवाया। कहते हैं उन्होंने कुरान का पाठ और कलमों का उच्चारण करवाया। इसके बाद ही नींव स्थिर हुई और निर्माण आगे बढ़ सका।
चारों पीरों की मृत्यु के बाद, उनकी दरगाहें ताजमहल के चारों ओर स्थापित की गईं — जिन्हें आज भी ताज की अलौकिक रक्षा करने वाली माना जाता है। परंतु इतिहासकार साफ कहते हैं कि इस कथा का कोई प्रमाणित दस्तावेज़ नहीं है। यह विश्वास और लोकश्रुतियों में जीवित है, जो ताजमहल को एक जीवित किंवदंती बना देते हैं।
