In the quiet village of Bamnoli near Doghat in Baghpat stands a temple that carries not just history, but a living tradition passed down for nearly 350 years.
According to strong local tradition, the ancestors of the village brought the sacred presence of Nageshwar from Thana village in Rohtak (Haryana) and established this shrine. Since then, it has remained a center of deep-rooted faith.
What makes this temple truly unique is its simplicity. There is no priest here. Devotees themselves perform rituals, offering milk to the Nag Devta and expressing their prayers directly.
Every year on Nag Panchami, the temple comes alive with a vibrant fair. People travel from distant places, not just to worship, but to reconnect with a tradition that feels inseparable from the cultural roots of North India.
There was once a large pond beside the temple. A ritual involved taking a small amount of its sacred soil for worship. Though the pond no longer exists, a symbolic version of this tradition continues within the temple premises, keeping its memory alive.
One of the most emotional customs continues even today. Whenever a daughter of the village is blessed with a son, no matter where she lives, she returns to this temple. She offers prayers, distributes prasad, and hosts a community feast.
This is not just a temple.

कुछ स्थान इतिहास से नहीं, आस्था से बनते हैं।
बागपत के दोघट के पास बसे बामनौली गांव में स्थित यह नाग देवता मंदिर केवल एक धार्मिक स्थल नहीं, बल्कि लगभग 350 वर्षों से जीवित एक परंपरा है।
स्थानीय मान्यता के अनुसार, गांव के पूर्वज हरियाणा के रोहतक जिले के थाना गांव से नागेश्वर को अपने साथ लेकर आए और यहां इस मंदिर की स्थापना की। तब से यह स्थान श्रद्धा और विश्वास का केंद्र बना हुआ है।
इस मंदिर की सबसे विशेष बात इसकी सादगी है—यहां कोई पुजारी नहीं है। श्रद्धालु स्वयं ही नाग देवता को दूध अर्पित करते हैं और अपनी मनोकामनाएं सीधे प्रकट करते हैं।
हर वर्ष नाग पंचमी पर यहां विशाल मेला लगता है। दूर-दराज से लोग आते हैं और इस परंपरा का हिस्सा बनते हैं, जो आज भी उतनी ही जीवंत है जितनी सदियों पहले थी।
पहले मंदिर के पास एक बड़ा तालाब हुआ करता था, जहां से मिट्टी निकालकर पूजा की जाती थी। आज वह तालाब नहीं है, लेकिन मंदिर परिसर में प्रतीकात्मक रूप से यह परंपरा आज भी निभाई जाती है।
सबसे भावुक परंपरा यह है कि गांव की कोई भी बेटी, चाहे वह कहीं भी रहती हो, जब उसे पुत्र की प्राप्ति होती है तो वह यहां आकर नाग देवता के दर्शन करती है, प्रसाद चढ़ाती है और सामूहिक भोज का आयोजन करती है।
यह केवल एक मंदिर नहीं,
