राजस्थान की पुष्कर झील भारत की सबसे पवित्र जलराशियों में से एक मानी जाती है, जिसकी जड़ें हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं और ऐतिहासिक अभिलेखों में गहराई से जुड़ी हैं। मान्यता है कि सृष्टिकर्ता ब्रह्मा ने यज्ञ के लिए स्थान खोजते समय कमल का फूल गिराया था, और जहाँ वह गिरा वहां यह झील उत्पन्न हुई।

• पौराणिक उत्पत्ति: पद्म पुराण, भागवत पुराण, और स्कंद पुराण के अनुसार, ब्रह्मा ने राक्षस वज्रनाभ का वध करने के लिए कमल गिराया, जिससे झील प्रकट हुई।
• सावित्री का श्राप: ब्रह्मा की पत्नी सावित्री ने उन्हें दूसरी पत्नी गायत्री के साथ यज्ञ करते देख श्राप दिया कि उनकी पूजा केवल पुष्कर में ही होगी।
