Shahi Masjid, Firozabad – A Forgotten Gem of Indo-Islamic Heritage.
Hidden in the narrow lanes of Katra Pathanan, Firozabad, stands the oldest known mosque of the city – the Shahi Masjid.
According to the Agra Gazetteer, the mosque was built during the reign of Sher Shah Suri, possibly making it older than the Mughal Empire. However, local historical records and experts like historian A.B. Chaubey attribute its grand structure and architectural style to Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who reportedly initiated its construction in 1648 AD, which was completed over 5 years.
Despite its royal patronage, time hasn’t been kind. Many parts of the mosque are now lost, with only a few original features like the central dome and a rear wall surviving. Its vast courtyard and Indo-Islamic architecture still echo the prayers and craftsmanship of a bygone era.

फिरोजाबाद के कटरा पठानान मोहल्ले में स्थित शाही मस्जिद, शहर की सबसे पुरानी और ऐतिहासिक मस्जिद मानी जाती है।
आगरा गजेटियर के अनुसार, इसका निर्माण शेरशाह सूरी के शासनकाल में हुआ था, जिससे यह मस्जिद मुगल साम्राज्य के पूर्व की मानी जाती है। लेकिन प्रसिद्ध इतिहासकार ए. बी. चौबे के अनुसार, इसका निर्माण मुगल बादशाह शाहजहां द्वारा 1648 ई. में शुरू हुआ था और 5 वर्षों में पूरा हुआ।
आज यह मस्जिद कुछ अवशेषों के सहारे खड़ी है। केवल एक गुंबद और पीछे की दीवार बची है, बाकी हिस्से समय के साथ नष्ट हो गए या प्लास्टर से ढक दिए गए। बावजूद इसके, इसकी वृहद प्रांगण और मुगलकालीन वास्तुकला आज भी उस दौर की भव्यता की झलक दिखाते हैं।
???? यह मस्जिद आज भी धार्मिक आस्था का केंद्र बनी हुई है, जहां शहर के कोने-कोने से लोग नमाज़ के लिए आते हैं।
