Sheesh Mahal – The Palace of Mirrors, Agra Fort.
Built between 1631 and 1640 by Emperor Shah Jahan, the Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace) stands as one of the most exquisite hidden gems of the Agra Fort. Tucked below the Diwan-i-Khas, it was likely used as a part of the summer palace and imperial baths.
What makes Sheesh Mahal magical is its glass mosaic work, with mirrors said to have been imported from Aleppo (Syria). These tiny mirrors reflect light in thousands of patterns, creating a dreamlike, shimmering glow—especially under candlelight. Its thick walls helped maintain a cool interior, perfect for summer use.
Though currently closed to the public for conservation, its mystique and opulence continue to reflect the grandeur of the Mughal era.
शीश महल – आगरा किला का आईना महल
1631 से 1640 के बीच सम्राट शाहजहाँ द्वारा निर्मित, शीश महल आगरा किले की एक अद्भुत और रहस्यमयी धरोहर है। यह दीवान-ए-खास के नीचे, मुथमम्मन बुर्ज के पश्चिमी हिस्से में स्थित है।
यह महल शायद समर पैलेस का हिस्सा था और कभी शाही स्नानगृह के रूप में प्रयोग होता था। इसकी दीवारों और छतों पर की गई शीशे की कारीगरी इसकी पहचान है। कहा जाता है कि ये शीशे सीरिया के अलेप्पो से मंगवाए गए थे।
अंदर का अंधेरा माहौल और शीशों पर पड़ती रौशनी इसे एक जादुई रूप देती है। गर्मी से बचाव के लिए मोटी दीवारें बनाई गई थीं। वर्तमान में, यह संरक्षित क्षेत्र है और आम जनता के लिए बंद है—सिर्फ विशिष्ट अतिथियों को ही इसके दर्शन की अनुमति है।
