Their ancestors, entrusted with dispensing justice under royal decree, once held courts within these walls. Royal firmans of the Delhi Sultans granted lands and honors to the Qazis, whose noble mansions crowned the mound of Katha. The Haveli, their headquarters, stood as the largest and most dignified of them all. Here, Mughal emperors’ nobles paused for hunting expeditions, invaders like Tamerlane camped nearby, and generations of villagers came seeking justice. Even after the decline of the Mughal empire, the court at Katha continued to function well into the 20th century. But with time, grandeur faded. The mud-brick haveli weakened, deserted and decayed, reduced almost to ruins. Until one man — Shariq Bin Raza, a former UN Diplomat, and his wife Alka Raza, a journalist — decided to return to their roots. For 13 long years, pouring in savings, love, and perseverance, they revived this phoenix from the ashes. By 2009, the Haveli rose again, a beacon of resilience, memory, and beauty.
