In the narrow historic lanes of Bundi, where blue houses lean into the shadows of Taragarh Fort, stands a temple that whispers the story of medieval devotion — Shri Laxminath Ji Temple.
Believed to have been built during the Hada Chauhan rule in the 14th–15th century CE, this temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Laxminath form. Unlike the grand palace complexes of Bundi, this shrine feels intimate — almost hidden — yet architecturally profound.
As you walk towards Taragarh Fort, the temple emerges quietly. Its mandapa pillars carry intricate carvings typical of the Nagara style of North Indian temple architecture. The exterior walls are alive with sculpted deities, celestial beings, and ornamental motifs carved in sandstone — a testimony to the craftsmanship of medieval Rajasthan.
Over time, parts of the temple surface have been coated, which partially conceals the original stone texture. Yet even beneath that layer, the artistry survives — resilient, dignified, timeless.
Today, the temple is not among Rajasthan’s most advertised monuments. It does not compete with palaces. It simply stands — preserving Bundi’s spiritual and architectural memory.

श्री लक्ष्मीनाथ जी मंदिर, बूंदी – मध्यकालीन राजस्थान की मौन धरोहर
बूंदी की ऐतिहासिक गलियों में, जहाँ नीले घर तारागढ़ किले की छाया में सिमटते हैं, वहीं स्थित है श्री लक्ष्मीनाथ जी मंदिर — एक ऐसा स्थल जो मध्यकालीन भक्ति और शिल्पकला की कहानी कहता है।
इतिहासकारों के अनुसार यह मंदिर 14वीं–15वीं शताब्दी में हाड़ा चौहान शासकों के काल में निर्मित हुआ माना जाता है। यह भगवान विष्णु के लक्ष्मीनाथ स्वरूप को समर्पित है।
तारागढ़ किले की ओर जाते हुए यह मंदिर शांत भाव से दिखाई देता है। इसकी मंडप की स्तंभ-शिल्पकला उत्तर भारतीय नागर शैली का सुंदर उदाहरण प्रस्तुत करती है। बाहरी दीवारों पर उकेरी गई देव प्रतिमाएँ, अलंकरण और आकृतियाँ उस समय के शिल्पकारों की अद्भुत कला को दर्शाती हैं।
समय के साथ मंदिर के कुछ भागों पर परत चढ़ाई गई है, जिससे मूल पत्थर की चमक कुछ स्थानों पर ढक गई है। फिर भी इसकी वास्तुकला आज भी अपने गौरव के साथ खड़ी है।
यह मंदिर भले ही बूंदी के महलों जितना प्रसिद्ध न हो, परंतु यह नगर की आध्यात्मिक और स्थापत्य विरासत का महत्वपूर्ण साक्षी है।
