Once a proud emblem of faith and artistry, Shri Ram Bhawan of Ghasauli near Meerut stands today in silent dignity, its walls whispering forgotten prayers and family legacies.
Built over a century ago by Pandit Shriram Sharma Ji, the landlord of six villages — Ghasauli, Sindhawali, Murlipur, Dabka, Satwai and Dayampur — this haveli was much more than a home. It was a statement of devotion. The gateway itself, adorned with intricate stucco carvings of deities, peacocks, and celestial figures, still reflects the spiritual heart of the family that once lived within.
Each balcony (jharokha), each mural tells of an era when faith and art were interwoven — when even the plastered walls bore the marks of reverence. The faded reds and greens, the deity reliefs on the façade, and the old wooden doors carved with Om and floral motifs evoke a forgotten craftsmanship now rarely seen in western Uttar Pradesh.
In its heyday, the haveli echoed with songs, laughter, and rituals. In 1974, it even became a film set for the Hindi movie Kisan Aur Bhagwan, featuring Feroz Khan, Dara Singh, and Yogeeta Bali. But as families dispersed to Ghaziabad, Dehradun and beyond, time stood still here.
Today, the structure crumbles, yet its spirit endures. Standing before its weathered façade, one feels the weight of a verse that could well define its fate:
“Jiski jaisi neeyat hai, wo waisi kahani rakhta hai…
Koi parindon ke liye bandook, toh koi parindon ke liye paani rakhta hai.”
Pandit Ghanashyam Sharma, the great-grandson of the builder, poignantly remarks — “Even when a single brick falls, my heart weeps.”
This haveli, now in ruins, remains not merely a structure — it is an emotion, a memory, a mirror to the vanishing soul of rural heritage.

घसौली गाँव की यह हवेली — श्री राम भवन, अब खामोशी में डूबी एक दास्तान बन चुकी है। एक सदी पहले पंडित श्रीराम शर्मा जी ने इसे बड़े चाव से बनवाया था — तब यह केवल घर नहीं था, बल्कि श्रद्धा, आस्था और सामर्थ्य का प्रतीक था।
छः गाँवों — घसौली, सिंधावली, मुरलीपुर, ड़ाबका, सतवाई और दायमपुर — के ज़मींदार रहे पंडित श्रीराम शर्मा जी ने जिस निष्ठा से इसे सजाया, उसकी झलक आज भी दीवारों पर अंकित मूर्तियों, तोरणों और झरोखों में दिखाई देती है।
भगवान, साधु-संतों और नारी-मूर्तियों की जटिल नक्काशी, रंगीन फ्रेस्को और लकड़ी के दरवाज़ों पर अंकित ‘ॐ’ इस भवन की धार्मिक आत्मा को जीवित रखते हैं। यह हवेली उस युग की निशानी है जब धर्म और कला एक-दूसरे में घुल-मिल जाया करते थे।
कहते हैं 1974 में रिलीज़ हुई फ़िल्म किसान और भगवान के कुछ दृश्य यहीं फिल्माए गए थे — तब यह हवेली जीवंत थी, अब यह बस याद बनकर रह गई है। परिवार के अधिकतर सदस्य गाज़ियाबाद, देहरादून और अन्य शहरों में बस चुके हैं, पर हवेली की मिट्टी आज भी उनकी स्मृतियों को थामे है।
पंडित घनश्याम शर्मा जी कहते हैं — “जब इस हवेली की कोई ईंट गिरती है, तो मेरा दिल रो पड़ता है।”
समय ने इसे खंडहर बना दिया, लेकिन इसका हर पत्थर अब भी एक प्रार्थना की तरह गूंजता है — यह केवल ईंट-पत्थर की इमारत नहीं, बल्कि गुज़रे हुए समय की आत्मा है।
