In the quiet spiritual town of Hastinapur in Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh, stands the revered Shri Shwetambar Jain Temple — a place where time bends towards divinity. Hastinapur is not merely a city of the Mahabharata, once the capital of the Kauravas and Pandavas; it is also one of the holiest Jain pilgrimage centres in India. According to Jain scriptures and traditional Jain belief, this sacred land is associated with twelve kalyanaks — the Chyavan, Janam, Diksha and Kevalgyan kalyanaks of three Tirthankaras: Shri Shantinath Bhagwan (16th), Shri Kunthunath Bhagwan (17th) and Shri Arnath Bhagwan (18th). The spiritual aura deepens further, as Jain tradition holds that the first Tirthankara, Shri Aadinath Bhagwan (Rishabhdev), performed his historic paarna here, breaking his year-long fast with sugarcane juice offered by his great-grandson Shreyans Kumar. This event is commemorated every year on Akshay Tritiya, when thousands of devotees complete their year-long Varsi Tapp and gather here for their sacred fast-breaking ritual. The land is also believed to have witnessed the construction of Samavasaran of Bhagwan Mallinath and the visits of Munisuvrat Swami, Parshwanath Bhagwan and Bhagwan Mahavir Swami, as preserved in Jain religious tradition. The present temple structure was revived in the 1960s through the efforts of Acharya Vijay Samudra Suri Ji of the Vijay Vallabh Suri tradition, who undertook its jirnodhwar and constructed a new shikharbaddh temple while reinstalling the ancient idols. The Moolnayak is Shri Shantinath Bhagwan, with Shri Kunthunath and Shri Arnath enshrined in separate sanctums. A short distance away lies Shri Nishiya Ji, believed to be the original site of Aadinath Bhagwan’s paarna, marked with marble charan padukas. Every year, Kartik Purnima also witnesses a grand fair and dhwajarohan ceremony here. Hastinapur is also traditionally regarded as the birthplace of six Chakravartis beginning with Bharat Chakravarti and is associated in Hindu tradition with Parashurama.
