In 1631, Mumtaz Mahal passed away here during childbirth while accompanying Emperor Shah Jahan on a Deccan campaign. Instead of a grand tomb, she was first laid to rest in a Mughal garden known as Ahukhana, near the Tapti River. Walking through these remains today, the story unfolds in silence.
