In the dusty plains of Etawah, a silent story lies buried — of war, loss, faith, and communal harmony.
In the 12th century, a fierce battle was fought between Mohammad Ghori and King Jaichand of Kannauj. It’s believed that 22 foreign military commanders of Ghori and 22,000 soldiers were killed in the battle near present-day Ikaidil in Etawah.
At Ghori’s command, the graves of his 22 commanders were made into a memorial now called Bais Khwaja — one of the earliest Islamic war memorials in India, even predating Iltutmish’s tomb. But what’s most unique?

इटावा, उत्तर प्रदेश — जहां 12वीं सदी में हुआ था एक भयानक युद्ध — मोहम्मद गौरी और राजा जयचंद के बीच।
इस युद्ध में गौरी के 22 सरदार और 22,000 सैनिक मारे गए, और उनके दफन स्थान को आज बाईस ख्वाजा के नाम से जाना जाता है। यह स्थल भारत के सबसे पुराने इस्लामिक युद्ध स्मारकों में गिना जाता है।

???? कब्रों की संख्या को लेकर लोककथाएं भी प्रचलित हैं — कभी 21, कभी 23 — पर नाम हमेशा बाईस ख्वाजा ही रहता है।
⚔️ कहा जाता है कि कन्नौज के वीरसेन ने आक्रमणकारी गौरी की सेना को हराया था। इसी युद्ध के बाद गौरी ने अपने 22 सरदारों की याद में यह स्मारक बनवाया था।
???? पास ही एक मस्जिद है जहां आज भी विशेष अवसरों पर नमाज़ होती है।
बाईस ख्वाजा अब सिर्फ एक कब्रिस्तान नहीं — एक सांझी विरासत है।
