The Jaivana Cannon, Jaigarh Fort – Jaipur, Rajasthan
High on the rugged hills of Jaigarh Fort stands the legendary Jaivana Cannon — a masterpiece of Rajput metallurgy and ambition.
It was cast in 1720 under the reign of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, when the fort served as one of the most advanced artillery foundries in India. Crafted entirely from metal forged within the same fort, the Jaivana was — at the time — the largest wheeled cannon in the world.
Though designed for war, fate kept it silent. The cannon was reportedly fired only once in a test — a massive 50 kg shot said to have travelled nearly 35 kilometres, leaving a crater where it landed. No battle ever called for its use; instead, it became a symbol of strength and precision, guarding the city of Jaipur through centuries of peace.
Today, the Jaivana Cannon remains preserved at Jaigarh Fort — a proud reminder of Jaipur’s scientific foresight and martial artistry, echoing the legacy of a ruler who built empires not just with force, but with vision.

जयवाण तोप, जयगढ़ किला – जयपुर, राजस्थान
जयगढ़ किले की ऊँची पहाड़ियों पर विराजमान है ‘जयवाण तोप’ — राजपूती धातु-कला और शौर्य की अद्भुत मिसाल।
सन 1720 में महाराजा सवाई जय सिंह द्वितीय के शासनकाल में इस विशाल तोप का निर्माण हुआ, जब जयगढ़ किला भारत की सबसे उन्नत तोप-शिल्पशालाओं में से एक था। यही पर इसे ढाला गया और उस समय यह घोड़ों पर चलने वाली विश्व की सबसे बड़ी तोप कही गई।
कहते हैं इसे केवल एक बार परीक्षण के लिए चलाया गया था — 50 किलोग्राम का गोला लगभग 35 किलोमीटर तक गया और जहाँ गिरा, वहाँ एक विशाल गड्ढा बन गया। युद्ध में इसका प्रयोग कभी नहीं हुआ, पर इसकी उपस्थिति ही शक्ति का प्रतीक बन गई।
आज भी जयगढ़ किले में सुरक्षित यह तोप जयपुर की राजसी दूरदृष्टि और वैज्ञानिक सोच की पहचान है — एक ऐसी विरासत जो शौर्य से अधिक बुद्धिमत्ता की कहानी कहती है।
