꧁ Abu Ka Maqbara, Meerut ꧂ .
Abu Ka Maqbara is the 337-year-old red sandstone tomb of Abu Mohammad Khan Kamboh, Nawab of Meerut and a Wazir in Emperor Aurangzeb’s court. Built in 1688, it marked Meerut as a focal point for journeys from Awadh to the Mughal capital.
Such was his influence that even today city landmarks like Abu Lane and Abu Ka Nala bear his name. The tomb is also the final resting place of his wife.
Once spread over vast land rivaling the scale of Delhi’s Safdarjung Tomb, historians note that the structure may have served as a shelter for freedom fighters during the 1857 uprising, earning it the nickname “Mutineers’ Mosque.”
But sadly, this magnificent monument now lies in deplorable condition—with rampant encroachments, tin shacks atop the tomb, and multi-storey houses around it. Preservation is urgently needed to restore its lost glory.

अबू मोहम्मद खान कम्बोह, जो औरंगज़ेब के दरबार में वज़ीर थे, का यह लाल बलुआ पत्थर का मकबरा 1688 में बनवाया गया। यह आज 337 वर्ष पुराना है और कभी अवध से शाही राजधानी तक की यात्राओं का केंद्र बिंदु रहा।
इतिहास में उनकी अहमियत इतनी रही कि आज भी अबू लेन और अबू का नाला जैसे क्षेत्र उनके नाम पर जाने जाते हैं। उनकी बेगम का मकबरा भी यहीं स्थित है।
कहा जाता है कि 1857 के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के समय यह स्थल विद्रोहियों की पनाहगाह भी बना, जिसे इतिहासकारों ने “म्यूटिनियर्स मस्जिद” कहा।
लेकिन आज यह धरोहर अत्यंत दयनीय स्थिति में है—अतिक्रमण, टिन की झोपड़ियाँ और बहुमंज़िला मकानों ने इस स्मारक की भव्यता को ढक लिया है। इसे संरक्षित करना अनिवार्य है।
