Babri Masjid of Agra – Where Babur’s Funeral Prayer Was Held.
The Babri Masjid in Agra was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Babur in 1528. What makes this mosque historically significant is that after Babur’s death on 26th December 1530, his funeral prayer was offered right here. His body was kept in front of the mosque, in the Charbagh area, for six months before being taken to Kabul for burial.
Babur first arrived in Agra on 10th May 1526, after his son Humayun had taken control of the Agra Fort and looted its treasury. For security reasons, Humayun camped across the Yamuna River in what is today known as the Itmad-ud-Daulah area. Babur later built the Aram Bagh (also known as Ram Bagh) and the famous Charbagh nearby. In front of Charbagh, Babur constructed the Babri Masjid in 1528, where all five daily prayers are still conducted even today.

आगरा में स्थित बाबरी मस्जिद मुग़ल सम्राट बाबर द्वारा 1528 में बनवाई गई थी। यह मस्जिद इतिहास में एक खास स्थान रखती है क्योंकि 26 दिसंबर, 1530 को बाबर की मृत्यु के बाद उसकी जनाजे की नमाज यहीं अदा की गई थी। मस्जिद के सामने चारबाग में बाबर का पार्थिव शरीर छह माह तक रखा गया था, जिसे बाद में अफगानिस्तान के काबुल ले जाकर सुपुर्द-ए-खाक किया गया।
बाबर पहली बार 10 मई, 1526 को आगरा आया था, जब उसके पुत्र हुमायूं ने आगरा के किले को कब्जे में लेकर खजाना हासिल कर लिया था। सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से हुमायूं ने यमुना नदी के उस पार डेरा डाला, जो आज एत्माद्दौला क्षेत्र कहलाता है। बाबर ने यहां आरामबाग (रामबाग) और चारबाग का निर्माण कराया। चारबाग के सामने ही उसने 1528 में बाबरी मस्जिद बनवाई, जहां आज भी नियमित रूप से पांचों समय की नमाज पढ़ी जाती है।
