At Khandargiri, just 2 km south of Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh, rises a breathtaking monument of faith — a 45-foot-tall rock-cut statue of Tirthankar Lord Rishabhnath (Adinath), the first Jain Tirthankara.
The 45-foot statue of Lord Adinath at Khandargiri was carved between the 13th and 16th centuries under the patronage of Jain rulers and wealthy Jain merchants of Chanderi. Unlike temples built by a single ruler, this was a collective religious and artistic effort spanning centuries, supported by the Jain community of the region.
Surrounding the main figure are smaller carvings of other Tirthankaras, ancient inscriptions, and two rock-cut caves, some dating back over 700 years. These remain a testimony to the devotion and artistic excellence of medieval India.
Today, a modern Jain temple stands at the foot of the hill, continuing the centuries-old legacy of worship, while the colossal Adinath above silently watches over the land of Bundelkhand.

मध्यप्रदेश के चंदेरी से मात्र 2 किलोमीटर दक्षिण, रामनगर मार्ग पर स्थित खंडगिरि अपनी भव्यता के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। यहाँ पहाड़ी की सतह पर 45 फीट ऊँची भगवान ऋषभनाथ (आदिनाथ) की विशाल प्रतिमा उत्कीर्ण है।
खंडगिरि में भगवान आदिनाथ की यह 45 फीट ऊँची प्रतिमा 13वीं से 16वीं शताब्दी के बीच चंदेरी के जैन शासकों और समृद्ध जैन व्यापारियों के संरक्षण में निर्मित हुई थी। यह किसी एक शासक द्वारा नहीं, बल्कि क्षेत्रीय जैन समुदाय द्वारा सदियों तक सामूहिक धार्मिक और कलात्मक प्रयासों से साकार की गई थी।
मुख्य प्रतिमा के अतिरिक्त यहाँ अन्य तीर्थंकरों की प्रतिमाएँ, प्राचीन अभिलेख और दो शिलागुफाएँ भी हैं, जिनमें से कुछ सात सौ वर्ष से भी अधिक पुरानी हैं। यह स्थल आज भी श्रद्धा और शिल्पकला की अद्भुत मिसाल है।
आज पहाड़ी के तल पर एक आधुनिक जैन मंदिर भी स्थित है, जहाँ श्रद्धालु पूजा-अर्चना करते हैं, जबकि ऊँचाई पर स्थित आदिनाथ की भव्य प्रतिमा चुपचाप बुंदेलखंड की धरा पर नज़र रखती है।
