The Raja Mahal in Orchha stands as a majestic reminder of Bundela pride and artistry. Its foundation was laid in the early 16th century by Raja Rudra Pratap Singh, founder of Orchha, and the palace was later completed under Raja Madhukar Shah (c. 1554–1591).
From the outside, it appears simple, but inside it reveals a world of grandeur—murals of Hindu deities, mythological scenes from the Ramayana, and depictions of courtly life. The palace is a multi-storied square structure with two courtyards, each designed to channel light and air in remarkable ways.
Key features include the Diwan-i-Aam, Mardana courtyard, Zanana courtyard, and its rooftop offering breathtaking views of the Betwa River, Jahangir Mahal, and Ram Raja Temple. Today, its light and sound show revives the legends of Orchha’s glorious past, making Raja Mahal not only a monument but a storyteller of Bundela heritage.

꧁ बुंदेला वैभव की प्रतिध्वनि: ओरछा का राजा महल ꧂
ओरछा के किले परिसर का राजा महल बुंदेला शासकों की भव्यता और उनकी कला का अद्भुत उदाहरण है। इसका निर्माण 16वीं शताब्दी में रुद्र प्रताप सिंह ने प्रारंभ करवाया और इसे उनके उत्तराधिकारी राजा मधुकर शाह (1554–1591) ने पूर्ण करवाया।
बाहर से सादा दिखाई देने वाला यह महल भीतर से अत्यंत आकर्षक है। यहाँ की भित्तिचित्र और भव्य पेंटिंग्स रामायण के दृश्य, भगवान विष्णु, राम और कृष्ण जैसे देवी-देवताओं की झलक और बुंदेला दरबार के जीवन को दर्शाती हैं।
यह वर्गाकार बहुमंजिला संरचना दो आँगनों के साथ बनी है, जिनमें प्राकृतिक प्रकाश और हवा का विशेष प्रबंध है। दीवान-ए-आम, मर्दाना आँगन, ज़नाना आँगन और छत से दिखाई देने वाले बेतवा नदी व ओरछा के विहंगम दृश्य इस महल को और विशिष्ट बनाते हैं। वर्तमान में यहाँ आयोजित होने वाला लाइट एंड साउंड शो ओरछा की गौरवशाली गाथा को जीवंत कर देता है।
