A divine lake more sacred than the Ganges itself, right in the heart of Braj.
Mansi Ganga, located in the heart of Govardhan town, is one of the most sacred lakes in Braj. According to legend, this holy lake was not created by any river but by the will and meditation of Lord Krishna himself. It is said that bathing in Mansi Ganga not only absolves one of sins but also bestows Prem Bhakti – the purest form of love and devotion to Lord Krishna.
The name comes from “Mansi”, meaning “mind,” and “Ganga”, the sacred river. There are several legends around its creation. One states that Krishna brought the Ganga to Braj with his mental power to fulfil the wishes of his foster parents and other Brijwasis who wished to bathe in the Ganges without leaving Braj. Another says that Ganga herself desired to witness Krishna’s pastimes, and so he brought her to Govardhan.
Mansi Ganga is also linked to the divine Nauka Vihar (boat ride) of Shri Krishna and Radha Rani, where Krishna once disguised himself as a boatman and amused Radha with his divine play.
The beautiful stone ghats surrounding the lake were built by King Bhagwan Das of Jaipur. Pilgrims often begin and end their Govardhan Parikrama by taking a dip in this sacred lake, offering ghee lamps and prayers on its banks.

गंगा से भी अधिक पवित्र, ब्रज की गोद में बसी एक दिव्य झील।
गोवर्धन के हृदय में स्थित मानसी गंगा ब्रज की सबसे पवित्र और श्रद्धेय झीलों में से एक है। कहा जाता है कि यह झील किसी नदी से नहीं, बल्कि स्वयं भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की ध्यान शक्ति से उत्पन्न हुई थी। मान्यता है कि इसमें स्नान करने से न केवल पापों का नाश होता है, बल्कि श्रीकृष्ण की प्रेम-भक्ति की प्राप्ति होती है।
“मानसी” का अर्थ है “मन से उत्पन्न” और “गंगा” उस पवित्र नदी का नाम है। एक कथा के अनुसार, जब श्रीकृष्ण के पालक माता-पिता नंद बाबा और यशोदा जी ने गंगा स्नान की इच्छा प्रकट की, तो श्रीकृष्ण ने अपने ध्यान द्वारा गंगा को गोवर्धन में प्रकट कर दिया।
दूसरी कथा कहती है कि गंगा ने अपनी बहन यमुना से ब्रज में श्रीकृष्ण की लीलाएं देखने की इच्छा जताई। तब श्रीकृष्ण ने उन्हें अपनी ध्यान शक्ति से गोवर्धन में बुलाया और उन्हें अपने दिव्य प्रेम और शरारतों से अभिभूत किया।
यह झील श्रीराधा रानी और श्रीकृष्ण की नौका विहार की लीलाओं के लिए भी प्रसिद्ध है, जिसमें श्रीकृष्ण नाविक बनकर राधा रानी को प्रसन्न करते हैं।
मानसी गंगा के घाट जयपुर के राजा भगवानदास द्वारा बनवाए गए थे। भक्तजन गोवर्धन परिक्रमा की शुरुआत और समाप्ति इसी सरोवर में स्नान कर करते हैं, और घी के दीप अर्पण करते हैं।
