Shahi Idgah Masjid, Agra — A Mughal Legacy of Faith and Grandeur. The Shahi Idgah Masjid in Katghar, Agra, also known as the Great Idgah, is a remarkable 17th-century mosque commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan. Built in just 40 days in 1674 CE, this grand Mughal structure opens only twice a year — on Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha — making it one of the most exclusive sites of communal prayer. Constructed with red sandstone, the mosque features a massive walled compound, a 159-feet-long and 40-feet-wide prayer hall with seven arches, and four striking octagonal minarets capped with cupolas. The eastern gateway is 23 feet high and the front wall is over 9 feet thick. Over time, the mosque suffered neglect. In 1876, Nawab Ali Khan of Rampur financed its restoration. Later in 1940, the Central Public Works Department repaired the northern part, spending ₹11,574 on the roof. Protected by the Archaeological Survey of India today, the Shahi Idgah stands as a majestic symbol of Mughal architecture and communal harmony, visible from afar due to its towering structure and decorative chhatris. 40 दिन में बनी भव्य ईदगाह मस्जिद, साल में सिर्फ दो बार होती है नमाज कुतलूपुर मोहल्ले, आगरा स्थित ईदगाह मस्जिद का निर्माण मुगल सम्राट शाहजहाँ ने 1674 ई. में केवल 40 दिनों में करवाया था। यह 344 वर्ष पुरानी मस्जिद अपने विशाल आकार, ऊँची दीवारों और लाल बलुआ पत्थरों की खूबसूरती के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। मस्जिद 159 फीट लंबी और 40 फीट चौड़ी है, जिसके चारों कोनों पर बुर्जियां और अष्टभुजाकार मीनारें बनी हैं। मुख्य दीवार 9 फीट 3 इंच मोटी है और प्रवेश द्वार 23 फीट ऊँचा है। जालीदार मेहराबें और कोनों पर बनी बुर्जियां दूर से ही इस इमारत की भव्यता दर्शाती हैं। देखरेख के अभाव में मस्जिद जीर्ण अवस्था में पहुँच गई थी। 1876 में रामपुर के नवाब अली खाँ ने इसकी मरम्मत कराई। 1940 में केंद्रीय लोक निर्माण विभाग ने उत्तरी भाग की मरम्मत कराई जिसमें ₹11,574 खर्च हुए। वर्तमान में यह मस्जिद भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण द्वारा संरक्षित स्मारक है और साल में केवल दो बार — ईद-उल-फित्र और ईद-उल-अजहा — के अवसर पर नमाज के लिए खोली जाती है। .1
