In earlier times, Budhana Gate served as an important transit point, with bullock carts and tongas departing towards Budhana. For weary travelers, this temple was more than a shrine — it was a resting place. With a Peepal tree offering shade, two wells providing water, and small resting rooms, it became a spiritual halt before continuing the journey.
At the heart of the temple lies a swayambhu (self-manifested) idol of Lord Hanuman, believed by devotees to possess divine presence and power. The temple was once associated with the akhara of Pandit Shivdhan Hari and his brother, both known to be celibate saints, adding to its spiritual legacy.

लगभग 250 वर्ष पुराने इस मंदिर की पहचान केवल एक धार्मिक स्थल के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि एक जीवित परंपरा के रूप में है, जिसे पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी आगे बढ़ाया गया है। मेरठ के अनेक परिवार और व्यापारी आज भी अपने दिन की शुरुआत बाबा के दर्शन से ही करते हैं — यह केवल आस्था नहीं, बल्कि विरासत है।
यह मंदिर कभी लगभग 15 फुट ऊंचे स्थान पर स्थित था, जो इसे यात्रियों के लिए एक प्रमुख पड़ाव बनाता था। पुराने समय में बुढाना गेट से बुढाना के लिए बुग्गी और तांगे चला करते थे। यात्रियों के विश्राम के लिए यहां पीपल का पेड़, दो कुएं और कोठरियां थीं। लोग यहां रुककर बाबा के दर्शन करते, मंगल यात्रा की कामना करते और फिर अपने सफर पर निकलते।
मंदिर में स्थापित हनुमान जी की स्वयंभू प्रतिमा भक्तों के लिए विशेष आस्था का केंद्र है। यह स्थान पंडित शिवधन हरी और उनके बाल ब्रह्मचारी भाई के अखाड़े से भी जुड़ा रहा है, जो इसकी आध्यात्मिक महत्ता को और बढ़ाता है।
