This monument is not a palace in the conventional sense, but a maqbara (tomb), believed to have been built during the 15th century, in the era of the Malwa Sultanate. It is associated with a dai — a wet nurse — a woman entrusted with nurturing royal children in the royal household.
In medieval courts, wet nurses held a position of immense trust and respect. They were not merely caregivers, but maternal figures whose bond with the royal children was considered sacred. The construction of a dedicated mausoleum in her memory reflects the extraordinary regard granted to such women — a rare and touching acknowledgment in Indian architectural history.
Located near the Sagar Talao complex, Choti Dai Ka Mahal is built using red sandstone, with a restrained yet elegant design that mirrors the dignity of the person it commemorates. Over time, the structure has weathered centuries of silence, but its purpose remains clear — to honour care, compassion, and quiet service within royal life.

यह संरचना कोई राजमहल नहीं, बल्कि एक मकबरा है, जिसे माना जाता है कि 15वीं शताब्दी में, मालवा सल्तनत के समय निर्मित किया गया था। यह एक दाई — यानी शाही बच्चों की देखभाल करने वाली महिला — की स्मृति से जुड़ा हुआ है।
मध्यकालीन राजदरबारों में दाइयों का स्थान अत्यंत सम्मानजनक होता था। वे केवल दूध पिलाने वाली नहीं, बल्कि राजकुमारों और राजकुमारियों की पालनकर्ता और संरक्षक होती थीं। उनके सम्मान में एक अलग मकबरे का निर्माण, उस विश्वास और मान्यता का प्रतीक है जो उन्हें प्राप्त थी — जो भारतीय इतिहास में अत्यंत दुर्लभ है।
सागर तालाब परिसर के निकट स्थित यह स्मारक लाल बलुआ पत्थर से निर्मित है। इसकी सादगी और गरिमा उस स्त्री के व्यक्तित्व को दर्शाती है, जिसकी स्मृति में यह बनाया गया। समय के साथ यह इमारत मौन हो गई है, लेकिन इसकी भावना आज भी जीवित है।
